An Australian man reportedly died in Denpasar early on Tuesday morning after crashing his motorbike into the back of a garbage truck. Identified as 42-year-old Adrian Newton, the man had apparently been going on the bypass from Kuta to Sanur, right near Lotte Mart at around 4:30 am, when he hit the truck whilst attempting to make a U-turn. Newton, who was driving a Honda Vario, died right on the scene with open wounds on his cheek, chin, and forehead, according to Denpasar Traffic Police Chief Nyoman Nuryana.

“We couldn’t smell alcohol from the outside and so we can’t tell if he’s under the influence of alcohol. To make sure of that, autopsy is needed,” Sanglah Hospital Forensics Head Ida Bagus Putu Alit told reporters, as quoted by AAP[1].

The truck driver has been take in for questioning while the Australian consulate has been contacted about the accident, police said.
