A collision between a truck and a cyclist escalated quickly last Saturday, resulting in a knife in the truck driver s abdomen. At about 3:30 p.m., a black Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with a cyclist on the 400 block of Gramiak Road in Rutland. Upon investigation, police determined the 18-year-old cyclist had ridden out of a foot path and onto the road, hitting the truck s rear passenger-side quarter panel.

The truck stopped to offer assistance to the cyclist, who reportedly cursed at the driver and walked away. Police say the driver was concerned about the cyclist s condition and followed him on foot. The cyclist returned to the area and confronted the driver s son, who was holding a piece of debris from the crash at the time.

Police say a physical altercation ensued and the cyclist allegedly stabbed the driver in the abdomen with a knife. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the cyclist was arrested. The cyclist has been released but faces potential charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
