VIDEO: Lorry driver jailed for dangerous driving after he struck four vehicles

A lorry driver has been jailed after careering into four vehicles which had slowed for traffic leaving a number of people with life-changing injuries. Dashcam footage from the articulated lorry driven by Martin Gibson, of Bathurst Road, Gloucester, showed him running into the back of a Renault Kangoo van and going on to hit a Volkswagen Golf, a BMW 1 Series, and a Nissan Qashqai. A Kawasaki motorcycle was also involved in the crash, on the A46 at Bishopton, Stratford-upon-Avon, on May 21 last year.

Police said the drivers of the other vehicles were left with serious injuries some of which were deemed life-changing as a result of Gibson not paying attention to the road . Gibson, 54, was sentenced to 15 months in prison at Warwick Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to five counts of dangerous driving at an earlier hearing, police said. Pc Craig Marshall of Warwickshire Police s operational patrol unit said the force had issued the dashcam footage as a warning to drivers to pay attention when behind the wheel.

He said: Mr Gibson s dangerous driving had caused substantial damage, and had the potential to cause loss of life of those within the vehicles that were struck in the space of a few seconds.

All of this could have been avoided if he had paid attention to the road and anticipated possible traffic conditions ahead involving actions of other drivers.

This just shows that not paying attention when behind the wheel of any vehicle can have life changing effects to those involved.

I hope the sentence handed down by the court sends a stark warning to anyone who takes irresponsible and dangerous risks on the roads it is simply not worth it.
