Man dead, 2 injured in road accident in Bacolod City
A DRIVER of a Mitsubishi canter closed van died while two others, including his driver-companion and another truck driver, were injured after their vehicles collided at Purok Sunshine, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City Thursday afternoon. Police Station 4 head Elmer Bonilla identified the fatality as Dennis Tambasen, 50, of Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City, who died on the spot. He was a driver-reliever of a courier company.
Injured were courier-driver Arcone Pabon, 32, of Rodriguez Baybay, Barangay 35, Bacolod City, and winged van truck driver Julio Iwayan, 50, of Barangay Luna, Cadiz City. Iwayan sustained minor injury while Pabon is confined at a hospital. Investigation showed that Iwayan together with his helper, Rodel Ortega, 32, of Barangay Alimango, Escalante City were on their way to a beverage plant in Barangay Granada when their truck collided with the vehicle traveling on the opposite direction around 3:15 p.m.
The truck loaded with cases of beer swerved to the right hitting a fence while the other vehicle also hit a wall, Bonilla said. The beer cases fell on the road. Bonilla said they could not yet establish which vehicle caused the accident.
For his part, Iwayan said they came from Cebu City to deliver the beer supply in the city when their vehicle was hit by the speeding Canter truck.
Iwayan is detained at the station.
