Oblivious Truck Driver Drags Car Down Highway For Nearly A Mile

“What do you mean you didn’t know it, dude?” asked witness Brian Steimke after the big rig driver said he didn’t notice an entire car was stuck to his truck.

A California motorist came across a disturbing sight while driving northbound on I-15 just north of San Bernardino on Wednesday. Brian Steimke filmed a tractor-trailer driving down the road while dragging a burgundy Nissan Maxima along with it. According to CNN[3], the front passenger’s side of the vehicle was caught above the truck’s back tire.

While it appears Steimke was also driving while recording[4], that fact is vastly overshadowed by the incredibly shocking phenomenon he was witnessing.

The original clip, which has garnered more than half a million views on Facebook, shows the driver of the Nissan stick his arm out to get Steimke’s attention. The driver can be heard shouting, “He’s not stopping,” referring to the presumably oblivious truck driver. According to the California Highway Patrol, the truck dragged the vehicle for nearly a mile before finally coming to a halt.

Before Steimke could get the big rig driver’s attention, another vehicle had already sped up in front of the truck and slowed down, forcing it to stop. The driver told Steimke he didn’t know that the car was stuck to the truck, but Steimke found that difficult to believe. “What do you mean you didn’t know it, dude?” Steimke asked. “He’s on your truck!”

Luckily, the Nissan driver escaped the terrifying experience unscathed and was helped out of the car by a group of good Samaritans[5] who had stopped to lend a hand.

Whether or not the driver was unaware, it’s still unclear how the Nissan got in that predicament in the first place.

However, the truck driver was not charged.
