TN bandh: 55000 sand lorries won’t be operated on April 25

CHENNAI: Around 55,000 sand lorries[1] will not be operated on April 25 in view of the statewide bandh[2] called by the DMK[3] and other parties to highlight the sufferings of farmers in Tamil Nadu[4].

In a statement here on Friday, Tamil Nadu State Sand Lorry Owner’s Federation president S Yuvaraj said the federation is supporting the bandh. “Around 55,000 sand lorries across Tamil Nadu will not be operated between 6.00am to 6.00pm on that day,” he said.

Charging that the central and state governments had not addressed the demands raised by farmers, he said steps should be taken to waive off the farm loans and resolve the Cauvery river water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The state government should provide solatium to all farmers, who either died or committed suicide after their crops failed due to drought.
