Two females were in the SUV at the time, according to police. The driver of the SUV died from critical injuries, while the passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police say the delivery truck driver suffered a minor injury and didn’t require additional treatment.

The driver was placed in custody and taken to Virginia Beach Central Jail. Police say alcohol and speed may have been a factor in the crash. Images from Chopper 10 showed what appeared to be an overturned truck blocking both sides of Indian River Road in Virginia Beach.

Police officials tweeted about the crash around 4 p.m., cautioning motorists to use an alternate route. Indian River Road is shutdown at Princess Anne Road on the east side of the accident. It is also closed at West Neck Road on the west side of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation. This is a breaking news story. Stay tuned for updates.
