6 injured, 5 cars damaged in AIIMS flyover accident

At least six persons were injured after a speeding truck lost its balance following a tyre burst and crossed the divider on the other side of the road, ramming into several vehicles at the AIIMS flyover in the wee hours of Sunday. So far, no loss of life has been reported from the accident, although five cars have been damaged along with the truck. The police have reported that a total of six persons ,including a child, had sustained minor injuries.

They were sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ Trauma Centre and have been discharged. The police are now on the look-out for the driver who is on the run and have been identified. According to a senior police official from South district, the accident was reported by one of the passersby in the intervening night of July 8-9.

“The passerby was himself one of those, who had escaped the accident. He told us about the accident after which the police team from Kotla Mubarakpur Police Station reached the spot. By the time, all the injured were shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre,” the official said.

The police on the basis of preliminary investigation has claimed that the truck was speeding and coming from the Dhaula Kuan side, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the railing at the turnaround. It then rammed into five other vehicles coming from the opposite side towards Safdarjung Enclave. The police have so far managed to identify two of the injured persons, Mohan Gupta and Kishore, who have been discharged.

The police registered a case of rash and negligent driving (279) and causing hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others (337) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Kotla Mubarakpur Police Station.

The police have also claimed to have identified the truck driver after the owner of the truck was traced.

All the vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded at the police station.
