Delays around Nuneaton as notorious bridge hit by lorry AGAIN

Long delays are likely to hit Nuneaton’s roads this afternoon after a lorry hit a battered railway bridge. The A5 was blocked after the strike, which happened just outside Hinckley and is being dealt with by police.

The accident happened at around 1.35pm today and is the latest in a long series of bridge strikes to happen at the location despite numerous warning signs.

Area Traffic Control said: “The A5 is blocked. A vehicle has hit the railway bridge near to Dodwells roundabout.[1] The A5 could be blocked for some time – avoid the area if you can.”

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “At 1.35pm a lorry has hit the railway bridge on the A5 near Hinckley. Police are dealing, Please avoid the area.” The area is plagued by problems caused by lorries hitting railway bridges.

The bridge on the bridge in Hinckley Road, Nuneaton also often sees large lorries getting stuck underneath it.

It has caused so many problems, dispite it being unused, that the county council has looked at removing it entirely.
