DRI seizes 579 kg marijuana in Hyderabad, two held

Hyderabad: In yet another major crackdown on drugs in the city, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday arrested two persons, including a lorry driver, and seized 579 kilos of ganja that was being transported to Solapur in Maharashtra. The lorry was intercepted and seized from near LB Nagar crossroads here. According to officials, the duo had packed the marijuana in 278 packs and concealed them in a hidden cavity created in the lorry with a false flooring.

Based on a specific intelligence that prohibited narcotic drugs were being illegally transported, DRI personnel from the City Zonal unit had launched an operation and intercepted the vehicle.

The marijuana seized was said to be worth over Rs 58 lakh, officials said.

A few days ago, DRI officials had made another major seizure, intercepting a lorry in Visakhapatnam and seizing 2,629 kg of marijuana.
