These pictures show the extent of the chaos on the M20 after a serious crash. A lorry driver has been cut free by firefighters after being trapped in his cab by his injuries following the collision earlier today (July 12). Emergency crews raced to the M20 between junctions 11 and 11a at 12.15pm.

However, the coastbound carriageway is still closed and drivers have been warned to avoid the area. A spokesman for the fire service said: “We are working with other emergency services at the scene of a crash involving two HGVs on the M20 between junctions 11 and 11a on the coast bound carriageway.

“A driver of one of the vehicles was trapped by his injuries but has been released from the cab of the lorry by crews using hydraulic cutting gear. “Firefighters are working with paramedics from SECAmb’s HART team and the Air Ambulance.” Eurotunnel passengers and those using the ferry have been warned the M20 is closed.[3]

Drivers have been redirected onto the A20 and police have said this is the only access for passengers heading to the Eurotunnel.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Traffic is being diverted onto the A20. Access for passengers heading to Eurotunnel will be via the A20.

“The carriageway is likely to be closed for a few hours while an investigation is carried out at the scene. With congestion expected on the A20, motorists are being advised to use alternative routes where possible.” It is not yet known how serious the man’s injuries are.
