HGV motorist fuming as police take no action against Audi driver who verbally assaulted him after cutting him up

A HGV driver who was subject to a tirade of abuse in an angry confrontation on a Lincolnshire roundabout has blasted police after they concluded the Audi driver had done nothing wrong. Dashcam footage viewed thousands of times captured the bizarre incident[1] that happened the A160 and A1077 between Ulceby and South Killingholme on June 8 at 4.23pm. In the video, the driver of the Audi can be seen hurtling around on the inside line only to cut up the larger vehicle struggling to generate the speed as he cuts across the lanes.

An apology is the last thing on his mind, as the unhappy driver brake-checks in front of the HGV before being seen ranting and raving.

He then appears to turn around while driving to give the unsuspecting driver the middle finger. Eventually, he drives off.

The 43-year-old haulier is unhappy that Humberside Police have failed to take action against the angry motorist telling The Grimsby Telegraph[2] that it was “the worst possible thing you can do to a lorry driver.” The victim from Nottinghamshire – who asked to remain anonymous – has accused police handling of his complaint as “poor” and believes they have let the driver “get away with it.”

He also claims that police told him Mr Elliot hasn’t done me any wrong.

He said: “What he did could have caused someone to go in to the back of me. He needs to be made an example of. You can’t let people get away with that.

“I think they have all of the evidence that they need. “I don’t want the driver to be crucified, people make mistakes, but break checking a lorry is dangerous. “I just don’t see how the police can’t not act on it.

To me it sounds like they are hiding behind the system.”

As a result of Humberside Police’s stance, the lorry driver insists he has lost a great deal of respect for the force. “It has been a waste of everyone’s time and energy,” he added. “To say they’ve handled it poorly doesn’t even cover it in my opinion. “I grew up respecting the police but I’ve got to admit that this dents my relationship with them.

The driver of the Audi in the video posted on ‘Idiot drivers exposed’[3] has been identified as Mr Elliott. The owner of Kempton Security, has been on the receiving end of a barrage of insults and abuse for his actions in the video. When approached by The Grimsby Telegraph he said there were “two sides of the story” but declined to comment further.

Responding to the criticism from the lorry driver, a spokesperson for Humberside Police, said: “We understand that this behaviour can be frustrating, but we can reassure you that we have looked into the situation and an investigation has been carried out.

“Our Share the Road campaign urges all road users to think about their attitudes on the road.

If we were all a bit more considerate, rather than competing and losing our temper, then we’d all have better, safer and less stressful journeys.”
