Inquest set to open into death of Gurdip Johal who crashed lorry off bridge onto A12 near Witham

The inquest into the death of a Witham man who died following a horrific crash on the A12 is due to take place this morning (July 17). Gurdip Johal, 30, was killed when the articulated lorry he was driving came off Colemans Bridge onto the southbound carriageway near Witham, on February 8.
[2][3] The lorry, which was carrying wired batteries, came round the corner and crashed through the bridge barrier, catching fire in the process.

Mr Johal, a mechanic for Harris Truck and Van, on Wheaton Road, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics[6].

Shortly after his death[7], an initial inquest opening took place at Essex Coroner’s Court in Chelmsford[8] on February 15. Senior Coroner for Essex Caroline Beasley-Murray expressed her sympathy to Mr Johal’s family during hearing and noted the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The full inquest into Mr Johal’s death will take place at that same court at 10.00am today.
