One dead, one injured in fiery wrong-way I-5 crash

One man died and another was injured when a wrong-way driver slammed into a tow truck on Interstate 5 near 28th Street in San Diego just after midnight Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol[1]. A CHP statement said that the driver of a Porsche was heading the wrong way on the northbound side of the freeway. The driver then collided with a tow truck.

Both vehicles caught on fire as a result of the crash. The driver of the Porsche, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver suffered extensive burns and other major injuries and was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center.

He also has not been identified and his condition is not known.

The crash caused the northbound lanes to close and also affected two southbound lanes for several hours.

The crash is still under investigation.
