A state trooper seriously injured in a May crash[1] in Steuben County has been released from Strong Memorial Hospital. Craig Foglia was in his State Police Dodge Charger on the side of Interstate 86 in Campbell, Steuben County, on May 17 when the vehicle was struck from behind by a pickup truck. May 26: Trooper injured on I-86 last week improving[2]

May 19: Trooper seriously hurt in S. Tier hospitalized at Strong[3] He had just returned from a traffic stop involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee moments before, and his vehicle slammed into the Jeep, which was still parked in front of him.

The pickup truck driver, 78-year-old Kenneth Aukett of Westmont, New Jersey, was also injured in the crash. Foglia has been in the hospital since, with his condition being upgraded to satisfactory in late May.[4] He’s a 14-year veteran of the New York State Police and lives in Steuben County with his wife, said state Police spokesman Trooper Mark O’Donnell.

Much of Foglia’s family lives in the Rochester area. Aukett, the pickup truck driver, has not been charged, said O’Donnell. STADDEO@Gannett.com
