During a routine vehicle inspection around 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, security forces at Hanscom Air Force Base detected a concern which caused emergency evacuation plans to be put into place. The Vandenberg Gate, which is located on Route 2A has been closed off and several facilities on the base have been evacuated. There are no injuries and Hanscom investigators are currently investigating the situation at the time.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the Massachusetts State Police put out a statement saying a bomb-disposal unit and an aerial surveillance unit were responding. “At approximately 0945 hours today we were notified of a suspicious truck that had been stopped by base security at Gate 1 at Hanscom Air Force Base,” the statement read. “A standard screening of the truck and its cargo revealed indicators ofpotentially hazardous material. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad has responded and our Air Wing is responding as well.

As a safety precaution, an area around the gate has been evacuated.”

This is a developing story.
