UPDATE – Man in critical condition after collision in York

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in a collision with a HGV in York. The incident happed at approximately 1.10am on Tuesday 11 July 2017 on Lawrence Street, York outside the BP garage at the junction with Nicholas Gardens. The collision involved a white DAF refrigerated lorry travelling towards York city centre and a 52-year-old local man.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital. The driver of the lorry, a 58 year-old man, also from the York area was unhurt in the incident and has been assisting police with their enquiries. Officers want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle or pedestrian in the area around the time of the incident.

The pedestrian was wearing distinctive red trousers and had been on the same side of the road as the BP garage prior to the collision. Anyone with any information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for John Kendall. Or email John.Kendall@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to the casualty, examine the scene and to recover the vehicle.

It reopened at around 5.52am.
