A 30-year-old truck driver was taken to Orange hospital following an accident on the Mitchell Highway on Wednesday.

The driver was able to get out of the truck following the accident.

APPLE VALLEY — The man who was struck and killed on Interstate 15 near Dale Evans Parkway on Friday was the driver of a tractor-trailer, authorities said.

Identified as Gregory Brown II by family members, the driver of a tractor-trailer had pulled over to the east shoulder of northbound I-15 just before 1 p.m.

“For reasons still under investigation, the driver … was outside of his vehicle and entered the No. 3 traffic lane on foot, directly into the path of (another tractor-trailer) and received fatal injuries,” California Highway Patrol officials said in a statement.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:15 p.m., authorities said.

Brown’s cousin, Sharon Jones, told the Daily Press that her cousin, who was either 33 or 34, was a truck driver based out of Las Vegas.

The driver of the second tractor-trailer, identified as Michael Brooks, 41, of Texas, immediately pulled off to the east shoulder after the collision and called 911, according to authorities. Brooks was not found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.

CHP officials issued a SigAlert for the No. 2 and No. 3 lanes of northbound I-15 just before 1:30 p.m. to allow officers to investigate the scene. The closure lasted approximately three hours.

The collision is still under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the Victorville CHP Office at 760-241-1186.
