Did you see a crash on the M1 at Hemel Hempstead?

Police are looking for information and witnesses after the collision on the M1 on Wednesday.

An articulated lorry and white Peugeot 307 collided just before 4pm on Wednesday on the M1, approaching junction 8, after which the car burst into flames.

Two heroic members of the public stopped and helped those in the car exit safely, and one person sitting in the back seat required hospital treatment for minor injuries.

The lorry driver and other two car passengers were uninjured.

Chief Inspector Andy Piper, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit (RPU), said: “I would publically like to thank these two men for their selfless actions which undoubtedly saved the lives of three people.

“I am confident that had it not been for their courage and bravery, it is very likely our officers would have been attending an incident in which three people had died.”

Police are now looking for those who may have dashcam footage of the incident or who saw anything leading up to the crash.

Contact Hertfordshire Constabulary[1] via the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 545, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
