At least one person is dead after a dump truck and train collided in Spartanburg County. According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at Southport Road and Mt. Calvary Church Road around 12:10 p.m. Wednesday. The front cab and axle came apart from the body of the Ashmore Brothers dump truck. The truck collided with a Norfolk Southern train.

Troopers say the driver of the 2016 dump truck was trapped after the crash and died at the scene. Troopers say the driver was backing up east along Mt. Calvary Church Road and failed to yield to a train that was headed south on the tracks, and was struck on the passenger side. The coroner later identified Andrew Burgess, 65, of West Chapman Road in Belton, as the driver of the dump truck. The crash was so extensive that the truck’s diesel engine was displaced about forty yards from the initial impact.
