Kelly said she came down Monday night to the accident scene. She could hardly believe her eyes.

“The truck that was involved was split in half,” Kelly said. “One half was right there and the other half was about 10 feet away. And the part with the cab was smooshed all the way back to the seats as well.”

According to the King County Sheriff’s deputies, a 15-year-old girl who had no driver’s license was driving a BMW carrying a man his 20s, two teens and a 5-year-old.

She was heading north on Des Moines Memorial Drive South, drove through a red light and T-boned the pickup.

“She showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs,” said Sgt. Jason Houck. He said three people inside the teen’s car left the scene, leaving only the teen and the adult male. Deputies feel confident the teenager was behind the wheel and that she was speeding in the 35 mph zone.

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that probably going faster than 35 miles per hour to knock a cab off a truck, Houck said. The injured father is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center. His 7-year-old son is in serious condition.

As for the teen driver, she was booked into Juvenile Detention on vehicular assault.

She will be in court tomorrow afternoon.
