Mississauga trucker charged for rear-ending on Highway 69

FRENCH RIVER A Mississauga truck driver is facing charges and the people in a pair of vehicles he hit are considering themselves fortunate not to be injured worse after an accident this morning[1]. At 8:59 a.m. on May 25, members from the Noelville and Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police responded to a three vehicle personal injury motor vehicle collision on Highway 69, in the Municipality of French River. Investigation revealed that a line of vehicles was stopped at a construction area controlled by flag persons. A tractor trailer travelling southbound rear ended the last stopped southbound vehicle causing that vehicle to collide with another stopped southbound vehicle. After impact, the tractor trailer crossed the roadway and came to rest in the east ditch. As a result of the collision, a large debris field littered the roadway, causing the highway to be closed for 90 minutes.

Police confirm the debris was from the damaged vehicles and not part of the tractor-trailer’s cargo. The occupants of the two struck vehicles were transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with non-life threatening injuries. They have since been released. The driver of the tractor trailer, a man 44 years of age from Mississauga who was uninjured, is charged with:

Careless driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, in Sudbury, on June 20 , 2016, to answer to his charges.

The collision remains under investigation and police are asking any person with information regarding this collision should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
