Overturned Lorry Closes A30 Slip Road

A crash involving a lorry has closed a slip road on Cornwall’s busy A30. One person was trapped after it overturned off the junction for the A38 at Bodmin. Police say the man in his forties was rushed to Derriford Hospital with a serious leg injury.

Pirate FM has had reports of big tailbacks eastbound, heading towards the roadworks at Temple. Highways described it as a ‘serious’ incident and said the slip road was expected to stay shut for ‘several hours’. The latest update – it is expected to cleared by around 9.30pm.

The A30 eastbound exit slip road at Carminnow Cross, Bodmin, is closed due to a collision involving an HGV.

Highways South-West posted: “The A30 eastbound exit slip road for the A38 near Bodmin is closed due to a serious incident involving an overturned HGV. “It will be closed for several hours whilst emergency services work at the scene. “Road users requiring access to the A38 can follow the solid black circle diversion symbol.

“Exit the A30 at Innis Downs onto the A389 (Truro Road), continue on the A389 and join the A38 at Bodmin. “Road users are advised to consider alternative routes and to expect delays”.

Police say the slip road may be closed until at least 4pm and diversions are in place.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police, ambulance and fire crews were called at 9.10am on Thursday 5th January following a single-vehicle collision on the eastbound off-slip, A38/Carminnow Cross, Bodmin. “It involved a 26-tonne DAF Truck, fully laden, left balanced on the Armco barrier. “A male driver, in his 40s, was trapped in the vehicle and has sustained a serious leg/foot injury.

“He has been taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital. “The truck has shed its load across the slip road – crates of metal/wiring. “There is also debris on tracks at Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway.

Trains have been stopped. “A30 Eastbound exit slip road leading to the roundabout is closed and likely to be shut for around five hours. “Traffic is queueing back onto the main carriageway.”

A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Bodmin and Lostwithiel, including the Rescue Tender from Bodmin, attended a road traffic collision involving one large good vehicle.

“Upon arrival there was found to be one person trapped who firefighters released by stabilizing the vehicle and using crash rescue equipment”.
