15 stowaways found hiding in lorry’s fruit pallets at Spitalfields market

A lorry driver has been arrested after police discovered 15 people, mainly from Iraq, hiding in fruit pallets at New Spitalfields Market earlier this morning (February 24).

According to Waltham Forest police, the lorry had travelled from Spain to Britain and the group were discovered during the early hours when the fruit lorry was at the East London market.

Amongst the hideaways were a family of five who have been taken to hospital for treatment.

Three people, including the lorry driver, have been arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK.
