A13 crash: Lorry driver, 44, charged with causing death by dangerous driving after Basildon man died

A lorry driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a serious crash on the A13 which killed a 23-year-old man. Emergency services were called to the A1012 exit slip road on the London-bound A13 at about 9.30am on Thursday (February 2). The car driver, a 23-year-old man from the Basildon[2] area, died at the scene.

READ MORE: Essex Police arrest driver after Basildon man dies in crash on A13[5] The road was closed overnight, while the scene was cleared. Eyewitness Ryan Morgan, who drove past the scene[6], saw firefighters working on the Yodel lorry.

“There was debris all over three lanes, as well as diesel spillage,” he said. READ MORE: First pictures and video from the scene of serious A13 crash[7] “I was caught up on the A13 for about an hour or so at a standstill.

We were all then made to turn around and go back down the A13 to the next junction – to me it seemed clear it was something serious.”
