Cumbria Police deal with a serious road traffic collision on the A66 east of Penrith A main Cumbrian road remains closed following an earlier serious crash. The three-vehicle collision, involving a car, HGV and a Vauxhall Vivaro van, happened on the A66 eastbound near Penrith at 6.10am.

Police, fire and ambulance were all called to the scene, near Brougham. The driver of the van has been taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle with serious injuries. The A66 is closed in both directions from the Kemplay roundabout to Cliburn Road.

Motorists are warned to expect delays.

Cars are asked to use the A685 as a diversion with HGVs, and other large goods vehicles, asked to use the A65 or A69.
