Car crushed by bags of cement at West Coast carpark

SINGAPORE – A car parked in a West Coast carpark was flattened by bags of cement after a lorry crane apparently dropped its load on it. The incident happened at about 10am on Tuesday (Feb 21) at a carpark near Block 727, Clementi West Street 2. A video was posted on Facebook of the silver Toyota crushed by a load of cement.

There appeared to be dozens of bags each weighing about 40kg, Lianhe Wanbao reported. The roof above the car’s back seat was completely smashed in, but luckily no one was in the vehicle at the time. The bags seemed attached to the crane boom of a lorry crane parked in front of the affected car.

An eye witness told Lianhe Wanbao that he counted 40 bags of cement, which would add up to 1,600kg.

He said it took until about 2pm to clear the bags, after which the Toyota was towed away.

The building company that owns the lorry did not wish to comment when contacted by The Straits Times.
