CITU calls for rollback of transport fees, fines

Former MLA and CITU State general secretary M.A. Gafoor on Tuesday demanded that the Central government roll back registration, transfer and other fees and penalties in the transport sector. Taking part in a demonstration by lorry and car owners, autorickshaw workers and automobile mechanics before the Collectorate here, Mr.

Gafoor warned of organising a Statewide transport bandh on the issue if the government did not respond. The registration, transfer, finance entry, duplicate RC and passing fees for autorickshaws and light motor vehicles and lorries were hiked from 50% to 800% and the penalty for LLR, driving licence and licence renewal was enhanced from 100% to 400%, he said. The increased fee would burden motorcyclists by Rs.

300 and cars by Rs.

500 a month and autorickshaws, light vehicles and lorries at Rs.

50 per day after the stipulated time, Mr. Gafoor lamented. The Transport officials had been collecting the enhanced charges from January 12.

The Central government must roll back the fees and call the transport unions for negotiations, the CITU leader demanded.

CITU district vice-president Pulla Reddy, Lorry Owners’ Association leaders Ramakrishna and Yousuf, Car Owners’ Association leaders Salam and Yellaiah, Autorickshaw Workers’ Union leaders Prabhakar, Radhakrishna and Mehmood and Mechanic Union leader Gopal took part.
