Cyclist crushed by lorry ‘after driver didn’t use mirrors’

A tipper lorry driver killed a renowned art designer as she cycled to work when he paid insufficient attention to cyclists and failed to give her enough room, a court was told. Moira Gemmill, 55, was crushed to death on her way to work at St James’s Palace, central London, when the Mercedes lorry driven by James Kwatia ran over her at a roundabout near Lambeth Bridge in Westminster. A jury at the Old Bailey was shown footage of the moment the lorry pulled away from the bridge on to the roundabout, crushing Ms Gemmill under its wheels and killing her instantly on April 9, 2015.
