Delays on A14 after HGV hits bridge

Engineers are assessing damage to a bridge on the A14 after it was struck by an HGV today (February 2). The incident, in which nobody was injured, has led to the closure of one lane and traffic delays. Police are at the scene and have said structural engineers have been called to assess the broken bridge.

In images shared by officers on Twitter a broken barrier can be seen teetering on the edge of the bridge. A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We were called at 12.42pm to reports of a collision on the Eastbound carriageway near Huntingdon. “A HGV collided with the bridge between junction 23 and 24, causing structural damage.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident. “One lane is closed. Officers and structural engineers are on the scene.”

At the time of writing there is very slow traffic reported on the A14 eastbound between junction 23 with the A141 Spittals Interchange and junction 24 with the A1198 Godmanchester.
