Diesel spillage causes traffic chaos after HGV and two car crash

A Diesel spill caused traffic chaos, after two cars and a HGV crashed in Bootle[1]. The vehicles crashed outside Hugh Baird College[2] at around 5pm. Police advised people to stay away from the area, after diesel spilled out on to the road from the HGV.

Emergency services, including fire and police, are still on the scene to divert traffic and move the HGV, which is in the middle of the road.

Passerby Catherine Coburn, who was walking home from work, said the area “stunk of oil”. She added: “The traffic is moving slowly at the moment but it is building up really badly.

“Fire and police are trying to move the traffic and the lorry.” Police confirmed that no-one had been injured in the crash and that sand bags were being brought to the scene to deal with the oil spillage.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
