Driver cut free from cab after two lorry smash on M5

A lorry driver had to be cut free from his cab after two HGVs crashed on the M5 this morning. The collision happened on the northbound carriageway between junctions 23 and 22, north of Bridgwater, and was first reported at 10.18am. Two fire appliances from Bridgwater, one from Burnham on Sea and the rescue tender from Taunton attended an RTC involving two heavy goods vehicles.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews got to work with hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate the casualty, and vehicle stabilisation equipment was also used.

“At 11:25 the casualty was released by crews, and taken into the care of paramedics on scene.

Duty of care of the scene was being left with the Police and Highways Agency.”
