Eight killed in accidents

Four persons, including a 70-year-old woman, died after a bus they were travelling in rammed a lorry at Aitipamula village in Kattangur of Nalgonda district, 80 km. from here, in the early hours of Friday. The accident took place at around 2.30 a.m. when the lorry driver suddenly applied the brakes. Both the lorry and the bus belonging to Autonagar depot of APSRTC were on their way from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, Shaligouraram Inspector Prashanth said.

The driver maintained that he applied brakes to avoid hitting an animal. “The possibility of lorry driver dozing off and suddenly slamming the brakes on realising the danger cannot be ruled out,” the Inspector explained. There were 39 passengers in the bus. One of them, Vempati Ganesh, 25, died on the spot while 12 others sustained injuries.

Satyanarayana, 37, and housewife Govindarajula Susheela, 70, succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Seven other injured were discharged while two others are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Lorry rams auto

Khammam Staff Reporter writes: Three persons, including two women, were killed in separate road accidents involving autorickshaws in Khammam rural mandal on Friday. Sources said that a speeding lorry rammed an autorickshaw carrying passengers from Tirumalayapalem to Khammam at Barugudem on Friday evening. Five occupants of the vehicle including the autorickshaw driver Nageswara Rao, 35, his wife Padma, 30, and three others suffered injuries in the accident.

Padma and another injured passenger Srinivas succumbed to the injuries soon after being admitted to a hospital in Khammam, sources said. The condition of Nageswara Rao and two other injured persons was stated to be stable. Woman killed

In another road accident, a woman passenger was killed and another grievously injured when the autorickshaw they were travelling in collided with a lorry at Valya Tanda in Khammam rural mandal in the afternoon.
