Funeral details announced for popular war hero Austin Thomas from Flint

FUNERAL details for a former soldier who was killed after being hit by a lorry have been announced. Father-of-one Austin Thomas, 29, of Gardeners Row in Oakenholt, will be laid to rest on Thursday, February 23. Mr Thomas, who served in Afghanistan and Kosovo with the Welsh Guards, died on February 6 after being hit by a lorry at UPM Shotton where he was working.

His funeral will take place at St Mary and St David’s Parish Church in Flint at 11am, followed by interment at Flint Cemetery. Family flowers only have been requested, but donations can be provided to the Welsh Ambulance Service. The opening of an inquest held on Monday heard Mr Thomas was killed after suffering crush injuries.

The driver of the loader was arrested after the incident but later released without being charged.

Tributes have flooded in for Mr Thomas since he died, with the Welsh Guards also taking part in a memorial service in his memory.
