HGV and two cars crash on busy south Devon road

An HGV and two cars crashed on a busy south Devon road on Saturday night. Two fire engines from Paignton[2] along with the heavy rescue vehicle from Exeter[3] were sent to Colley End Road in Paignton[4] after reports of the crash at 9.15pm. Firefighters initially feared people may be trapped inside some or all of the vehicles after the crash.

On arrival crews confirmed that all persons were out of the vehicles and got to work making the vehicles safe using small tools and a hose reel jet. Duty of care was left with the police. Traffic has substantially increased in Colley End Road in recent days thanks to the roadworks which have closed Kings Ash Road from the Marldon roundabout[5].

Those works are set to continue until the end of March. The steep hill is frequently lined with cars, making it difficult for large vehicles to negotiate in both directions.
