HGV Technician / Fitter

These assets enable Cawleys to offer a full range of environmental waste collection and recycling services to over 5000 industrial and commercial customers. Due to continuing business success and growth we now have a fantastic opportunity available for a HGV Technician / Fitter to cover Luton and Wellingborough. HGV Technician / Fitter key responsibilities:

In this position, you will be contributing within the engineering main function, ensuring all vehicles and plant equipment is maintained and to ensure reliability and safety, alongside completing MOT preparations, servicing and inspection of vehicles, PMI’s and rectifying all repairs.

You will also be responsible for:

Ensuring that all company vehicles and plant are inspected, serviced and maintained to comply with current legislation and manufacturer recommendations.

  • Ensuring that all company vehicles are maintained to standards set by DFT and that statutory “O” licence requirements are complied with.
  • Ensuring that all necessary paper work, daily worksheets and time sheets are completed and signed off.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Health and Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Complying with Company HR Policy and procedures.
  • Seeking technical advice from Fleet Manager / Fleet Engineer in the absence of a supervisor on site.
  • Participating on the duty rota when required to cover bank holidays.
  • Any other duties as required by the Workshop Supervisor and Business Manager for the smooth running of the workshop.
  • Complete relevant paperwork with all tasks.

  • Able to manage multiple tasks.
  • HGV licence preferable but not essential
  • Waste industry experience – desirable but not essential


  • Competitive Salary of ?14.00 per hour, dependent on experience
  • Job related bonus
  • Core hours are 56 hours per week (Monday to Friday and 3 out of 4 Saturday mornings)
