A lorry driver has been spotted using a lay-by on the A52 as a makeshift toilet. A motorist stopped off to use Leverton toilets[2] which have been closed down by the council to find they were shut. As he made his way back to his vehicle, parked in the lay-by, by the toilets he couldn’t believe his eyes.

He witnessed a man squatting down with his trousers around his ankles defecating by the wheel of a lorry. READ MORE: Bids sought to turn toilet block into new business – as long as it still has toilets![3] The motorist said: “It is disgusting.

He clearly defecated and then wiped himself and threw the tissue on the ground. “It really concerns me that motorists are doing this when there are public toilets there. “They should never have been closed down.

“I stopped off to use the toilets.[4] I was unaware they had closed down. “I entered my car and drove to a customer’s house and asked to use their toilet. “This is a busy lay-by and there are no public toilets between Boston and Skegness so if you get caught short you are in trouble.

[5] “You can see by the toilet paper left on the ground around the area that people are using the lay-by near the toilets as a public loo.

The toilets were run by Lincolnshire County Council but funding to run them was withdrawn last year leading to closure of the public conveniences. Boston Borough Council has since been looking at ways to re-open the toilets.

The council[6] says it wants to maintain public access to the toilets, but someone taking on responsibility for the building would have opportunity to potentially use the rest of the space to open a cafe or run another suitable business.

Entrepreneurs have come forward with ideas but these ideas are yet to confirmed by the council.
