M11 blocked between junctions 8 and 9 after lorry overturns

The M11 northbound has been blocked after a multi-vehicle collision, which involved a lorry overturning. Motorists have been advised to take other routes after this incident this afternoon (Thursday, February 23) which is expected to take more than three hours to clear. Highways England tweeted about the incident at 2.05pm, saying: “Heavy traffic is now building on the section as authorities attempt to sort the incident.”

There are currently delays[3] of 30 minutes against normal traffic conditions between junction 8 for Bishop’s Stortford and junction 9 for Newmarket. One lane is closed in both directions further along the carriageway towards junction 10.

It is thought that the knock-on effects of the crash could be felt until at least 4.30pm. Essex Police[4] officers are now assisting highways teams.
