Man charged with drink driving after M62 crash involving car and HGV

A man has been charged with drink driving and driving with no insurance after a crash on the M62 on Thursday morning. Police were called at about 6.10am after a collision between a Vauxhall Zafira and HGV on the westbound stretch of motorway between junctions 21 and 22 near Rochdale. Pictures of the Zafira after the crash show the vehicle completely battered, with the front window smashed through, the back wheel hanging on by a thread, and some of the passenger side of the car torn away from the structure.

A stretch of the M62 was temporarily closed off by police following the crash as the vehicles ended up blocking two lanes.

The driver of the Zafira complained of back injury, and was assessed by ambulance crews who declared he was medically fit. A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged on suspicion of drink driving and driving with no insurance. He was released on bail and is due to appear at Bury and Rochdale Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 3.
