Man killed by lorry at Salford Circus named by police

A pedestrian who died after being hit by a lorry near a busy Birmingham roundabout[1] has been named by police. Simon Morris, from Kingstanding, was struck by the vehicle on Salford Circus at around 3pm on Monday. The 26-year-old was treated at the scene and rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but died soon afterwards. West Midlands Police[2] said his family were being supported by officers.

Part of Lichfield Road was cordoned off for several hours on Monday evening while investigators examined the scene.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area of Lichfield Road and Cuckoo Bridge at the time of the accident to come forward.

Sergeant Alan Hands, from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The family of Simon are being liaised with by specialist officers and our thoughts remain with them at this sad time.

“We owe it to the family to establish what happened and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who have not spoken to officers yet to come forward.”
