Man seriously hurt while helping recover forklift from ditch

A man has been seriously hurt while helping recover a forklift from a ditch. It is understood the man, aged in his 20s, pulled up in his car to help after a forklift went into a ditch on Ballinlea Road, near Stranocum, Co Antrim[1] , at 4.50pm on Monday, February 13. A lorry was recovering the forklift when the man got out of his car to assist.

He was injured during the recovery and was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. A PSNI spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information following an rtc that occurred in the Ballinlea Road area, near Stranocum, at approximately 4.50pm on Monday 13 February. “The rtc involved a lorry which was recovering a forklift that had went into a ditch and a man who got out of his car to assist.

The man, who is aged in his 20s, has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are currently believed to be serious but not life-threatening.”

Inspector Colin Reeves said: “I would ask anyone who knows anything about this serious rtc to contact Coleraine Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 918 of 13/02/17.”

Part of the Ballinlea Road currently remains closed to traffic.
