Man seriously injured in A595 Mealsgate crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the A595 at Mealsgate this morning (27 Feb). The collision involved a black Ford Focus and a HGV tipper truck. Cumbria Constabulary were called to the incident at 7.32am.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 22-year-old man, has suffered serious, potentially life-altering injuries and has been taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Nobody else was injured in the incident. A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 7:47am firefighters were called to a report of a road traffic collision on the A595 at Mealsgate.

“Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to extricate one casualty, a man, who was then handed into the care of the ambulance service.”

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision but has yet to come forward.
