Man suffers ‘potentially life-altering’ injuries in Cumbrian crash

Monday, February 27, 2017 at 10:59AM SOCIAL BOOKMARKS A 22-year-old man has suffered “potentially life-altering” injuries following a crash on the A595.

He was driving a black Ford Focus, which was in collision with a HGV near Mealsgate this morning. He had to be cut free by firefighters and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries. Police described them as “potentially life-altering”.

The other vehicle involved was a John Elliot Ltd highways maintenance tipper truck. Nobody else was injured in the crash, which happened at 7.32am near to the B5299 junction. The busy main road is still closed in both directions while detailed accident investigations take place.

Emergency services, including air ambulance, paramedics and firefighters, were at the scene. Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision, to contact them.
