DETECTIVES have released new images in a fresh appeal for information after a police officer was seriously injured in an incident on the A5 at Wall near Lichfield last year.
A horrific drama unfolded[2] after a policeman was hit by traffic after pursuing a man who had been pulled over in a stolen lorry[3]. The offender then carried on to carjack another driver.

The injured officer is still at home recovering from the serious leg and chest injuries he sustained following the incident on the evening of November 29 2016. Detective Inspector Dan Ison of Staffordshire Police said the officer had attempted to stop a suspicious HGV at 6.15pm following a short pursuit along the A5 between Wall Island and Weeford Island. When the HGV stopped and the driver got out of the vehicle, the 39-year-old male police officer from Tamworth pursued him on foot.

DI Ison said: “The man confronted the officer, threatening to harm him with a fallen tree branch, and this resulted in the officer stepping back towards the carriageway where he was involved in a collision with another vehicle. “We’re issuing these images and making a fresh appeal to the public to help us find these men. “This serious incident has resulted in one of our officers being hospitalised and as a result of these injuries we don’t yet know if he’ll be able to return to work as a frontline officer and do the job he loves.”

DI Ison added the suspect had then approached a Ford Fiesta that was stationary in traffic on the carriageway and pulled the driver from the vehicle. The stolen Fiesta was later found abandoned near to the Social Club in Pelsall. Police are urging the public for information about the suspect involved.

He is described as being a white male, well built, around 6ft tall and in his late 20s, wearing a black jacket with a hood and black baseball cap. The second suspect got out of the passenger side of the skip lorry and ran across fields at the side of the A5. The second suspect is described as white, in his late 30s to early 40s, around 5ft 11ins tall with a round face, small eyes and facial hair.

He was wearing a black hoodie and a dark beanie style hat rolled up above his ears.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 583 of November 29 2016 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
