No police action to be taken over lorry death at Deeside paper mill

A probe into the death of a man at a paper mill on Deeside Industrial Estate has been handed over to the Health and Safety Executive for sole investigation. The man was killed after being struck by a lorry at UPM Shotton on Weighbridge Road at about 11.30am on Monday. A man was arrested on Monday in connection with the incident.

North Wales Police have confirmed that he has now been released without charge and there will be no further police action. A spokesman for UPM Shotton confirmed the incident was in the recovered fibre warehouse and the emergency services were called immediately. David Ingham, UPM general manager, said: “At this time we are investigating the full details of the incident, working closely with the emergency services and the HSE.

“Our immediate thoughts are with the individual’s family and colleagues. “We will provide full support to all staff involved and investigate fully with all parties.” No further comment will be made by UPM Shotton until all investigations have been concluded.

DCI Neil Harrison said; “A man arrested yesterday in connection with the matter has now been released without charge and there will be no further police action.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased at the very difficult time.”
