Sunbury A316 crash: Driver killed after car smashed into lorry following police chase named as Benjamin Rich from …

The man who died after a crash on the A316[1] near Sunbury[2] has been named as 37-year-old Benjamin Rich from Richmond. Investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC)[3] confirmed Mr Rich’s identity following the smash near Kempton Park[4] . Mr Rich, who was driving a black Audi TT, died following a Metropolitan Police chase on the southbound carriageway at about 4.40am on February 8, which ended when he crashed into a stationary HGV.

He was declared dead at the scene and a post-mortem has taken place.

The driver of the HGV was taken to West Middlesex Hospital but has since been discharged.

The IPCC has started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Rich’s death. Investigators attended the scene of the crash and were present at the post-incident procedures.
