Network Rail engineers will carry out safety inspections to check the bridge was not damaged. Meanwhile some trains travelling towards Liverpool and Manchester and leaving from Warrington Central are delayed, according to the National Rail website. That is understood to be due to a separate issue.

Travel data unit Inrix is reporting one lane blocked and very slow traffic due to the bridge being struck by a lorry on B5210 Froghall Lane Eastbound near Arthur Street.

Cheshire Police[2] have been contacted for more details over this incident, including if any injuries were sustained.
