Traffic LIVE: Lorry smash brings M6 to standstill sparking rush hour chaos

DELAYS: A crash between a HGV and a car on the M6 have caused major delays

Highways England confirmed a collision around 7am on the M6 southbound has closed one lane near junction 6. It said traffic has been stopped while officals assess a large diesel spill. Traffic officers and fire crews have scrambled to the scene to assist.

Lengthy delays of up to two hours are expected with congestion as far back as junction 10. A spokesperson on Twitter said: “M6 long delays southbound from J9 following an RTC and spillage within J6 (#A38/#Birmingham). Traffic currently held.

We’ll update ASAP.”

CONGESTION: BBC live traffic updates show where accidents have cause disruption

Severe delays can be expected on the M1 West Yorkshire northbound due to an accident.

The collision happened between junction 39 and 40 meaning long waits for rush hour drivers.

Accidents on the M4 Monmouthshire eastbound, M90 Perth And Kinross soutbound and the M1 Derbyshire northbound have also caused disruption.
