Tributes to ‘loving father’ killed in Scottish Borders crash

A family have paid tribute to a “loving father” who was killed in a car crash in the Scottish Borders. Police have named the man killed in the crash on the A1 road on 18 February as Paul Thomas Johnson. The 31-year-old, from Berwick upon Tweed, died when his Renault Clio was involved in a collision with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

His family said in a statement he will “always be remembered for his sense of humour and big smile”. Mr Johnson’s family have released a statement in tribute to him. Police are appealing for information from any witnesses.

It was earlier reported that the collision involved two cars and an HGV. The road was closed in both directions between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Grantshouse while investigations were carried out.

Our sincere condolences go to the family of the driver at this very sad time. Enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.

I’m appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this collision, stopped at the scene or anyone with information which can help with our investigation, to get in touch.

– Sergeant Scott Sneddon of the Road Policing Unit
