A main route in Dumfries and Galloway has been closed for more than 12 hours after a crash involving a lorry carrying a wind turbine. The incident took place on the A713 Castle Douglas to Ayr road, around a mile north of Parton village, on Monday shortly before 11pm. No one is understood to have been hurt in the incident, however recovery has been delayed because of the weight of the vehicle.

The road is expected to be closed throughout Tuesday while uplift is arranged. Police said they would issue an update about when the road was likely to be reopened. A full diversion is in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
